Bound By The Spirit

8th– 9th July

Weekend Edition

I have had one message for Jews and Greeks alike – the necessity of repenting from sin and turning to God, and of having faith in our Lord Jesus.”

Acts 20:21

The Gospel is simple. It is not over complicated and doesn’t need to be. Paul had a burning desire to share this Gospel, even at the sake of his own persecution and suffering. He was beaten, imprisoned and experienced all kinds of suffering, just so he could tell people, of the love of God shown to us by Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross, resulting in the forgiveness of our sins.

Paul even counted his life as nothing, but being a vessel to share this message. Even as he traveled back to Jerusalem, knowing full well the persecution awaiting him there, he was filled with so much joy in sharing the Good News and grace of Jesus Christ.

Friends the message of Christianity is so simple: repent of your sins, have faith in Christ, and receive the unconditional, everlasting, grace and love of the Creator of this world. There are so many people across the world who need to hear this truth. Paul said he was ‘bound by the Spirit’ to share this wondrous truth. Are you? Are you willing to share this message with people all around you too?

The Great Treasure

13th June

The high priest and his officials, who were Sadducees, were filled with jealousy. They arrested the apostles and put them in the public jail. But an angel of the Lord came at night, opened the gates of the jail, and brought them out. Then he told them, “Go to the Temple and give the people this message of life!””

Acts 5:17-20

When God changes your life, you simply can’t keep it quiet. It’s like a great treasure that you want to share with everyone. See being saved isn’t solely for an entry ticket into Heaven! It is so much more than that. It is holistic healing. It is being set free from fear, from hurt, from pain and un-forgiveness. It is physical healing. It is being liberated to live how God intended you to live, His purposes and designs for you. It is being made whole again; our broken hearts restored, our wounds patched up and our insecurities and weaknesses transformed to strength in Jesus. It is for these reason that we can’t stay quiet. We have to share it, because we want others to have this GOOD NEWS.

Peter and the early church apostles and disciples were like this too. Jesus had done so much in their lives, completely radically and supernaturally transformed them, that they too just couldn’t stop sharing about Him. As the angel of the Lord said ‘it is the message of life’ that they were sharing. Even in spite of punishment and captivity from the Jewish leaders, they persevered with sharing the Good News to all people, filling Jerusalem with the message of Jesus Christ, His love, redemption, restoration and renewal. Even jail bars could not stop them. They were empowered with the Holy Spirit to boldly share the Gospel with all people.

Friends, we too must have the same urgency and passion to share about Jesus to a lost and needy world. Don’t be afraid to speak up, using words or actions. God is with you. All you need to do is share the treasure you have and let God open people’s eyes to its value!

The Gospel Is Not Flattery For Personal Gain

16th May

For we speak as messengers approved by God to be entrusted with the Good News. Our purpose is to please God, not people. He alone examines the motives of our hearts.”

1 Thessalonians 2:4

When Paul, Silas and Timothy, boldly preached the Gospel to the church in Thessalonica, their intentions were simple; to share the Good News of Jesus Christ, His salvation and His soon return. There was no ulterior motive. Yet many in Macedonia, Achaia, and Thessalonica were stirring up rumours that the faithful servants of Christ, were only preaching to gain the financial support and favour of the churches, so as to discredit the core of their message. Yet nothing could be further from the truth.

Through the message of Paul, Silas and Timothy, many came to know Jesus Christ and put their trust in Him. As verse 8 of chapter 1 boldly states, ‘the word of the Lord is ringing out from you to people everywhere’! The Thessalonian church was thriving because of the faithfulness shown by Paul, Silas and Timothy to boldly share about Christ, in spite of persecution and without trying to gain anything in return.

We too should take note and be challenged in our own lives, to share the Gospel of Christ with all those we meet, not for our own personal gain, but for God’s Kingdom to come in their lives. We too, have exactly the same commission as Paul and as the other followers of Christ in the New Testament. It hasn’t changed. We too speak ‘as messengers approved by God to be entrusted with the Good News’. Our role in His Kingdom is to share the Good News, not to gain popularity among Christians, or to flatter those hearing for personal gain, but rather to please God and be faithful in what He has called us to do. It is God alone that both examines our hearts in sharing, and the recipients hearts in hearing. Be faithful in what God has called you to do!
