Faith To Heal: Our Approach

5th September

After Jesus left the girl’s home, two blind men followed along behind Him, shouting “Son of David, have mercy on us!” They went right into the house where He was staying, and Jesus asked them, “Do you believe that I can make you see?” “Yes, Lord,” they told Him, “we do.” Then He touched their eyes and said, “because of your faith, it will happen.””

Matthew 9:27-29

This wonderful short story in Matthew, has so many lessons for us to learn; about God’s heart and why He came to the earth, and our response to Him in faith.

There is nothing complicated about the faith shown here in this passage. It was a simple, almost desperate like faith. Firstly, the blind men should have been on the outskirts of society, rejected by the people, cursed by God, unclean and full of sin. Yet they desperately shouted for Jesus, the Messiah who had come through the line of David, a prophetic and Messianic fulfilment. Secondly, their desperation led them into the house where Jesus was staying. Matthew accounts of this story says, ‘they went right into the house where He was staying’. There is a simple desperation in these two men. They knew Jesus was the key to their healing, they knew He could heal them and they weren’t about to let Him go!

Jesus saw their desperation and faith, and healed them by opening their eyes. Today this same Jesus still opens the eyes of the blind, saves the lost and heals the sick. He is still full of the same power. Nothing is too big for Him. The question is, how do you approach Him? Is it with unwavering faith, knowing He is all you need?
