Being Thankful

13th July

Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.”

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

One of the hardest lessons to live by is to be thankful and joyful in all circumstances. After all, as Paul writes, it is the will of those who belong to Christ Jesus. Yet being thankful and joyful in all circumstances doesn’t necessarily mean we should accept all things or be content with injustice or hardships. Being thankful and joyful means that you put your trust in Jesus and not in our own ability to change circumstances for the good. If we know that our circumstances are in the hands of Almighty God, then that gives us cause and reason to rejoice. It gives us cause to be thankful knowing that God is control. It takes away the pressure that we put on ourselves to ‘make things better’ and allows Jesus to be in the driver’s seat. That is why we should never stop praying. By persistently praying we are continually inviting Jesus into our circumstances and by doing our filled with joy and hope.

As we lay down our needs and hopes at the feet of Jesus, may His joy fill our hearts, not just with a temporary happiness but a sustained joy that doesn’t waver in hardships and is not swayed by circumstance. It is a joy that resounds in victory and comes from the very throne room of Heaven. May your hope and thanksgiving be found in Jesus.

Be Thankful

1st June

Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.”

1 Thessalonians 5:18

There are so many things to be thankful for. Even in the bad times, it always could be worse right? Yet more than just our emotions or feelings, thankfulness is an attitude of looking past circumstances and seeing God’s hands at work in our life, around us and for His glory, and then praising Him for what He is doing. Thankfulness sees that God in control and doesn’t reason, with just our carnal feelings and thoughts. It sees God’s work in all things. Furthermore, it is God’s perfect will for our lives; for those who belong to Christ.

As we begin to be thankful to God in our prayer lives, we soon notice that the things to be thankful for, start becoming an endless list. Our worries decrease, our stress levels decrease and our trust, hope and optimism in what God is doing and going to do in our lives increases. It changes our perception of the God we serve and the power He has. It realigns our image of who we have made God to be, giving a clearer picture of who He really is. Thankfulness quashes all fear and anxiety and causes us to reflect on the faithfulness of God’s answered prayers, even down to the things we don’t even pray for or take for granted.

Rejoice, this morning, in thanksgiving. Rejoice God has given us a new day. All glory to Him. Amen.

Be Thankful

2nd December

Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

A new day has started and with it brings hundreds of reasons to be thankful to God. Even from the small things we take advantage of everyday, such as having warm food to eat or hot water to shower, there are always reasons to be thankful. None more so than the gift of Jesus Christ.

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son”

That is a reason to be thankful this morning. Moreover, there was nothing you did to deserve that gift. It is and was a free gift. Salvation is found in no other nam; And yes, that also was and is a free gift. His Healing: Free. His forgiveness: Free. His comfort: Free. This free gift we have received gives us reason to worship Him in thanksgiving despite our circumstances, fears and worries. David Jeremiah wisely shares his thoughts on this verse..

Note that the verse doesn’t say for everything give thanks, but in everything give thanks. In every situation in life there are reasons to give thanks, not the least of which is the truth that God uses all things for good in the lives of those who belong to Him (Romans 8:28).1

God is good and loves us. God is love. May we today be at peace in knowing He is for us and not against us. May we be thankful in and for everything in our lives. May be know how to be thankful even in hard times, because even there, God’s goodness can be found.
