“How joyful are those who fear the Lord and delight in obeying His commands. . . They are generous, compassionate and righteous…. They share freely and give generously to those in need..”
Psalm 112:1, 4b, 9
When our lives are soaked in God’s word, lived and breathed out in our daily walk, literally our whole lifestyle changes. His ways become ours. His heart becomes ours. Our hearts long for the same things, break for the same things and rejoice in the same things. Moreover, we start to live as ‘Christ-like’ people. Part of Jesus’ character is generosity. He generously gave His life up for us, and daily exhibits generosity by showering us with His love and grace.
Generosity doesn’t expects anything back, it gives freely. It gives from a heart of compassion and care for others. It is because we have received generosity from God that we too can be generous. Generosity is at the center of God’s heart. The Psalmist words almost echo the promise given in Deuteronomy 15:6, ‘The LORD your God will bless you as He has promised. You will lend money to many nations but will never need to borrow. You will rule many nations, but they will not rule over you’; a promise too, conditional on obeying God’s words.
Cling on to God’s promises, and you will be blessed beyond measure, generous without needing, lending without borrowing, sharing without keeping. You have a storehouse of blessing waiting for you.
