“When you are arrested, don’t worry about how to respond or what to say. God will give you the right words at the right time. For it is not you who will be speaking – it will be the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.”
So often when we are in situations beyond our control, our natural ‘I want to be in control’ button is triggered, and we automatically think that we need to know what to do or what to say. Yet Jesus, when He sent out His disciples on their missionary journey, said completely the opposite. He encouraged His disciples, that when in situations beyond their control, i.e., being arrested and facing persecution, it is then the Spirit will give wisdom what to say and do. So it is the same with us, when we are in tune with the Spirit, our words will become His and play out like a Heavenly rhythm.
Time and time again throughout the Bible, we see this in reality. For example when Peter stood up on the day of Pentecost and boldly shared about Jesus Christ and His resurrection. Many people were in awe at his words, after all, he was only an un-educated fisherman. Stephen, when standing before the council, charged with blasphemy, amazingly shared the Gospel in full through the power of the Spirit. Furthermore, on Paul’s countless missionary trips, God always gave in the words to speak and many people came to faith through them.
God has a mission for us all; to boldly be beacons of His light and love, through our words and actions. Don’t be afraid. God will give you the words to speak. He has and is equipping us for the mission He has given us, even in the midst of a storm.
